The exhibition “Intemporality of Matter” offers a sensorial and philosophical experience, inviting the public to explore the relationship between nature, the human mind, and the transformation of ideas into concrete forms. Mário Lopes, deeply connected to sculpture since his youth, presents a series of works that reflect the maturation of his concepts over time, materialized in various media such as stone, wood, cork, and paper, among others. Each work expresses the artist’s respect for matter and his commitment to immortalizing it.
Growing up in the countryside, Mário draws inspiration from the laws of nature, capturing the fluidity, strength, and energy of natural elements, and conveying these qualities in his creations. Although stone was his starting point, his exploration of other materials, such as prints, tapestries, and paintings, reveals a versatility that enriches his artistic vocabulary.
His travels and contact with diverse cultures have broadened his vision of the essential role of art in people’s lives. In Intemporalidade da Matéria, Mário Lopes’s sculptures transcend their materiality, becoming vehicles for abstract images and timeless ideas that challenge our perception of the world and the forms within it.
